hey! so I got a package in the mail from Ashley over at It’s A Trap! and it was the last thing I needed to call this dumb thing finished. I had slept on the black second press when it first came out and had to grab it somewhere else. stoked I was able to get it from a friend!
this is Snowing’s Pump Fake/Scherbatsky 7” put out by Square Of Opposition Records. I don’t see this release being talked about as much as the full length or FYEB but it’s probably my favorite 7” that i’ve collected. everything from the lyrics insert w/ the sweet art and the fabricated Snowing history insert that came with the 2nd press on (i’ve scanned both here) to the Joy Division - Closer ripoff layout (which i’ve also ripped off for a show flyer) and the “Twinkle Twinks” etched in the matrix is fucking awesome and fun and a blast to look through. the songs themselves — a re-recording of Pump Fake from the LP sessions and accompanying b-side are sick twinkly jams that are typical Snowing and a posthumous reminder that they were holding this shit down better than any other band since. i’m still pissed they didn’t have a tour edition LP for the one time I got to see them AND that I skipped the record release edition that was in the SoO store after their last show! fuck me.
anyways, there was an even 1,000 pressed of this 7” over 3 pressings, but with a ton of variations in between those pressings (clean your goddamn plates). every copy I have save for the clear on the top left and the black on the bottom right have some kind of color streak. there was also some identified ‘transition’ presses, or records that are pressed in between color changes so they have a mix of both. there are some real bullshit ones (like the 2nd press ‘stormy sky’ /1 and ‘nuclear waste’ /4 and the 3rd press ‘stained bathtub’ /2, none of which i’ll ever own i’m pretty sure) but there were 20 of a clear/black mix from the third press that I was given because Chris sold out of Chung King shirts in my size. owning that kinda jump started my ‘need to finish this goddamn shit’ senses and I ordered another copy from Interpunk because this dude on deadformat said they had black ones. well, he was wrong and I ended up getting that grey-ish dustbunny looking one top middle, so it wasn’t all lost. it’s a nice ‘transition’ from the super clear to the dirty transition press. I finally stopped being a moron and looked at some distros for some old stock (surprisingly easy to find) and bought the last one I needed. complete! the very last spot open is in case I ever acquire a test press. fingers crossed.
so that’s all of it. go support Chris Reject (but only if you want to) by buying his crap at his bigcartel when it comes back up at the end of the week. I recommend the new Literature 7” and the Plow United(!!) LP. you can visit the Square of Opposition site in the meantime or like SoO on facebook. warning: professional wrestling and ‘adulthood’ ahead.
also, did I mention the run time for Pump Fake is listed as 4’20” on the label?
